Rwanda: Planning makes perfect...

December is a very busy month at Ahazaza Independent School. We are currently on school break but that does not mean resting, it means planning, planning and more planning for 2012! But planning makes perfect...or at least we like to think so...

Through a panel of 3, the staff has been focusing on the student selection and registration for 2012. As the school offers scholarships this needs to be a very thorough and transparent process. Criteria for Selection and Registration Procedures are some of the items included in the School Handbook for 2012. Created with the assistance of the Rwanda Project Officer, this Handbook shows Ahazaza’s commitment to exist as a responsible member of the wider community. If you are looking into doing the same at your school but need a bit of a push: Manual 3 ‘How to Organize your school’,  School in a Box Guide Series free downloadable guide from the Teach a Man to Fish website, helps you in creating your own Code of Ethics and Human Resources procedures as we are doing at Ahazaza.  It is not easy to adapt and transform an educational institution into a ‘learning organization’, but if we can do it in Rwanda so can you!

As for the business update: the wedding bells are ringing at the school, as the staff plans the first wedding at Ahazaza’s brand new Multipurpose Hall! Through an event planning and staging workshop by Teach a Man to Fish Rwanda Project Officer earlier this month, the Multipurpose Hall Team is taking it from business planning to business implementation.  All may seem very daunting but just bringing your peers together, exchanging ideas, makes all a bit easier, at least that is what we found! Think about the objectives of the event, the resource requirements, permits/licenses you will need for staging the event, publicity and advertising, but most importantly the capital required and the expected income. Instead of relying on memory, create a simple action plan for the event, this will not only increase the chances of effective completion of tasks but it will build on teamwork!

That is all from us at Ahazaza Independent School, we wish you Noheli Nziza!
