Kick Starting A Revolution In Education
A wise old Chinese man once
said “Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day,
teach him how to fish and he’ll eat for life”…
or possibly it was Mr Miyagi. Either way, we believe that
education is the real key to changing the world.
The snag is that poor countries are poor
(duh!), and education is expensive. But does it have to be?
It’s about time education started paying its own way!
Basically, when we teach people how to keep
bees for honey - they produce honey, and lots of it! Then
when the honey’s all been sold - if we’re doing
our job right, that is – there’s money to maintain
the hives, and enough to cover the teaching.
And the clever part is because this
approach is financially sustainable, once an initiative’s
up and running, it just runs, and runs, and runs, and runs,
and… well, you get the picture!
How We Work
We're working hard to take our revolution to the world.
1. We're telling everyone we know what a
good idea it is, and hoping they'll like us enough to tell
their friends
2. We're linking up agricultural schools
and communities around the world to share ideas about how
to deliver a high quality education that pays its own way
i.e. one that is financially sustainable.
3. For select schools that are committed
to this approach, know what they want to do, and meet a boring
long ticklist of requirements*, we help them turn their plans
into reality.
* To safeguard our
donors' money we have to check that schools are well run,
and that they put their students' welfare and education first
in everything they do
