CONFERENCE SESSIONS - a first glance into the conference program
Education That Pays For Itself 2009 will host some prestigious speakers from all over the world.
Teaching Entrepreneurship to Children and Adults - Professor Marc Epstein and Professor Kristi Yuthas from Rice University and Portland State University will give participants a precious insight into their research on business management and entrepreneurial training for adult microentrepreneurs with low literacy and numeracy skills. This session will describe the training they have developed, the results of their research, and their perspective on how entrepreneurship and business management training for both children and adults can effectively alleviate poverty in developing countries.
Are our graduates employable and will they pay this privilege forward? - Adri Marais, from TSIBA Education, will guide you into her work in South Africa. TSIBA Education actively recruits and identifies untapped talent within communities that are impoverished, both academically and economically, and provides them with full tuition scholarships. TSiBA’s mission is to be an innovative and sustainable learning community that graduates business leaders who ignite opportunity within economically impoverished communities.
Balancing Learning and Earning Needs With Technology - This session from Professor Matthew Kam, Carnegie Mellon University
School of Computer Science, is targeted at practitioners, educators, policymakers and individuals who are enthusiastic about integrating technological innovations with self-sufficient educational models to increase access to learning opportunities given livelihood constraints such as the need to earn income. It will introduce delegates to a research project on cellphone applications that aim to help poor children in developing countries – especially who cannot attend school regularly due to their need to work for the family in the agricultural fields or households – learn outside traditional school environments. The goal is to create an opportunity for delegates to learn what others are doing in this space and establish collaborations for taking our respective projects forward.
More sessions will be coming out in the next weeks, so keep checking this page for further information!
